Beginnings and Ends Part 2

Hi! Everyone good?

It was 29°C this afternoon and now it's pouring outside. I love Melbourne weather :)

2010

“This cap is not going to hide my face, Brett” Cooper spoke under his breath as he followed Brett out of the hotel.

Brett turned around and glanced at Cooper. “Na... No ones gonna recognise you Coop” Brett gave him a quick smile before placing his hoodie over his head.

“Come on, don't wanna miss the bus now do we?” Brett patted Cooper on the back as they both crossed the road to reach the bus stop.

It was dark. But the street lights drowned out most of the darkness. To Coopers delight they were the only ones at the bus stop.

“No one goes out this late on a Wednesday night” Brett tucked his hands in his pockets.

“Yeah I can see that” Cooper said trying his best not to look suspicious.
Brett's eyes landed on him. Brett closed the gap between them.

“Relax Coop” Brett whispered. “We won't get caught”

“I'm cold. I'm not nervous” Cooper said. “Brett?” He added.

“Yeah?”

“Is that our bus?” Cooper adjusted his cap.

Brett turned to check.

“Yeah. Yeah that’s our bus” Brett said moving closer to the bus stop.

When the bus stopped Brett let Cooper in first.

“I'll get the tickets” Brett said letting Cooper move along.

Cooper made his way through the bus. He did his best to not make eye contact with the few passengers on the bus. Moving his way down to the very back of the bus he took a seat next to the window. He watched Brett making his way towards him. His eyes glued to his, smiling. Quickly returning his smile Cooper looked away.
Brett sat down on the seat ahead of Cooper and leaned his back against the window, facing his team mate. Cooper's eyes followed the bright Sydney streets. They were different from Melbourne’s. It lacked something. He wasn't quite sure. But this was Brett’s home and he wasn't about to bag it.

With more distance people got off and no one got on.

“You sure you don't want to go to the movies?” Brett asked.

Coopers eyes landed on him.

“Yeah” Cooper wanted to talk to Brett. He wanted this time to hear Brett's voice, not some actors.

Brett’s fingers wrapped around the hold between the two seats. Placing his hand close to Brett’s, Cooper touched Brett’s fingers with his own.

Brett’s smiling eyes stilled on him as he tightened his fingers around his. His thumb rubbed circles across Cooper’s palm. Cooper watched Brett's fingers as his lips slowly curved into a smile.

The intertwined fingers only unraveled when Brett saw their stop ahead.

“Are we getting off?” Cooper asked.
“Yeah. Come on” Brett moved down.

He let Cooper get off first. Let him see the sight before them. They stood before the ocean. When the bus left Brett took hold of Coopers hand and ran.

“Come on!” He shouted over the howling wind.

Brett’s hood fell back revealing his blond hair under the street lights.
Cooper smiled. He was beautiful. The ocean was beautiful. The light of the moon made everything magical. He felt like a kid again. Cooper ran alongside Brett, tightening his grip around Brett’s. Never did he want to let go off those fingers.
